Which teams to watch this week (12/1/25)

In between posting about cute puppies and preaching this past week, you may have noticed I moved the team and player ranking page, and gave it a massive overhaul.
The reason for this is simple: I want to have a place for Utah HS players to share the information that most college coaches want to see. This was all built out of experience fielding emails, texts, calls, DMs, and having in-person conversations with coaches at all levels. I found they all wanted similar things: Is he going on a mission? What’s his GPA? Can I see some film? How can I contact him?
Now these coaches have a place to find players they are looking for, and your player will only be found on this new site if you claim your free profile at www.prepbasketball.net. There are bound to be some minor changes needed, but I’ll only know about them if you want them done.
Yes, there’s a premium version, and that version will allow you to input your cell phone to be contacted via text/call, let you customize your domain name, and your profile will appear at the top of searches on the site. Currently, premium domains are $50/year and will not auto-renew, so you won’t feel trapped in case you forget. Cool?
📅 On to the Games!
Tuesday, 12/2
Corner Canyon vs LCA
I got a chance to watch both of these teams at the LVLUP Hoopfest and fully expect this to be a game that stays close throughout. Josh Tolman is one of the craftiest finishers I’ve seen in High School, and having fellow Junior Mo Brown be able to play in this game will help give CC some size to compete with the LCA frontcourt of Bovo and Roman. Tyler Mortensen has the length and IQ to compete defensively with Gabriel Sularaski as well. I expect the homecourt advantage to help and LCA to win a close one.
Orem at Hurricane
Orem got Aisa and Juni back during the LVLUP Hoopfest games, and you could tell Coach Tavita was figuring out how to get the team to gel. If the Orem team I saw in the first half against CC travels down to Hurricane, Brigham Kemp will be happy to send them back north with their 3rd straight loss. However, Orem looked like they were beginning to really figure out a few things in the second half and nearly came back against CC. Simeon Suguturaga is a handful, and I’m not sure Hurricane will have an answer for him.
Pleasant Grove at Farmington
Farmington is off to a hot start, winning both of their games going away, with their latest victory over a very good Viewmont team. They have 4 guys averaging double digits, led by senior Guard Isaac Anderson at 15.5. PG, similar to Orem, has been up and down so far and they will have their hands full on the road against the Phoenix.
Duchesne at Rowland Hall
I might have to head to downtown to watch the early season breakout player in the state at Rowland Hall in Jrue Miller. Can he keep scoring over 40 ppg?!?
Sky View at Box Elder
According to Dez News, both of these teams are undefeated, but Box Elder has been one of the better stories to start the year. Their balanced scoring attack features no seniors averaging more than double digits, which bodes well for the Bees this season and for next year.
Wednesday 12/3
Syracuse at Springville
Carter Robinson and Jamyn Sondrup is a matchup featuring two of the better bigs in the state, with both players having offers to play at the next level (Jamyn with a few High Major offers, to be clear). If Carter can find a way to slow down the big man, Syracuse will have a chance to come away with an upset on the road.
ALA at Emery
The #2 team in 3A takes on the #3 team in 2A, and Kobe Ross from ALA is going to have to outplay senior Guard Sitterud Potter from Emery, who has led Spartans to a 4-0 start. Will Emery have an answer for big man Cooper Crockett from ALA though?
Herriman at Bountiful
This is the certified popcorn getter for the evening. Xavier Mulford and Lincoln Smith are both off to amazing starts on the year, with X coming out in his first game of his varsity career and going off for 31. I don’t have any intel, but is Carlo hurt? The Mulford duo in the backcourt is a problem against anyone, but the Bountiful student section will show up and create the type of hostile environment that makes them tough to beat on their home court.
Thursday, 12/4
Highland vs American Fork
Is this the game of the week? Not much more can be said about this one. This one is a toss up, but Isaiah Drisdom has yet to really have a signature game, and if he decides Thursday is the day, watch out.
The rest of the week features a bunch of games featuring Utah teams vs. out-of-state teams, which I believe might be an event happening here locally? I heard it might be at Corner Canyon, but I’m not sure.
Busy week in the state!
Be kind.
Respect the officials.
