Week 5 already! Some games and matchups to watch
REMINDER - claim your free player or team profile at www.prepbasketball.net
Update on the new recruiting site, we have 36 players who have claimed their player profiles at www.prepbasketball.net. I need about 90 more to keep the energy going and make this site valuable to college coaches. Do we have 125 players in the state who think they can play at the next level? 100% we do! Here’s what you do:
1) go to www.prepbasketball.net
2) sign in or create a login
3) search for your name. If you’re not on the site, create a new profile.
4) claim your profile
The free version does a lot and helps you get the information coaches want to see when they’re searching for players in Utah. It also will help if you plan on going on a mission as the site will keep your profile active if you put in your first year of availability.
The paid versions do have value. the $50 level let’s you add your cell phone number as well as create a unique URL that’s easy to share. the $120 version gets you access to 2800 non D1 college coach emails and you can email them directly from the site. The email is already drafted and pulls in your information directly from your profile.
🏀 Utah Boys HS Basketball: Games to Watch This Week (Dec 15 - Dec 19, 2025)
Welcome back for another week of action! We’re diving into region play and some excellent non-region tests across the state.
🗓️ Monday, December 15, 2025
Timpanogos Timberwolves vs. Springville Red Devils
Game Notes: Don’t let the Timpanogos record fool you; they’ve scheduled a brutally difficult non-region slate and are still capable of competing with anyone. Springville is rolling with a 5-1 record.
Key Matchup: Springville’s Mason Hansen is shooting the ball at an elite rate from 3 (45% on 5 made 3’s a game), which will only keep opening up the paint for the best big man in the UHSAA, Jamyn Sondrup.
🗓️ Tuesday, December 16, 2025
Region 6 Matchups
Region play is starting to heat up, and Region 6 is shaping up to be one of the best regions in the state to watch.
Alta at Woods Cross
Context: Woods Cross is one of the few undefeated teams left in the state (5-0 record in the MaxPreps composite rankings as of the weekend) and will be tested by a strong Alta team.
Olympus at Highland
Context: A rematch of the 5A State Title game from last season! You know the Rams have been waiting to get back at the Titans. Expect a highly energized atmosphere.
Non-Region Games to Watch
Wasatch at Syracuse
Corner Canyon at Herriman
Intermountain Christian vs. South Summit
Key Player: Keep an eye on 2029 G Ben Wanner for ICS—a special talent.
Lone Peak at Layton
🗓️ Wednesday, December 17, 2025
Region 9 (4A) Battles
Region 9 in 4A has no real easy games this year.
Hurricane at Dixie
Key Question: Does Hurricane have an answer for Collin Simmons? Can Dixie do what no team has done this year and shut down Brigham Kemp?
Crimson Cliffs at Pine View
Context: Two teams that I expect to be in the Final 8 in 4A at the end of the year. A great early indicator of region strength.
ALA at North Summit (2A)
Context: This features my current top two teams in 2A. Don’t be fooled by the classification; both of these teams have some serious talent.
Key Matchup: 2028 G Tayton Pace is shooting 42% from 3 and averaging 22 PPG, making him one of the biggest stock risers in the class. But will the Braves have an answer for 6’9 Cooper Crockett and 2028 G Kobe Ross? The home crowd in Coalville is sure to be loud!
🗓️ Thursday, December 18, 2025
Rich at North Summit (1A/2A)
Context: I had Rich as my 1A preseason pick, and they’ve come out of the gate slow. Could an upset against the strong North Summit Braves be the catalyst they need to turn their season around?
Farmington at Northridge
Context: Both of these teams came out to start the season very hot and have recently hit a few losses in a row.
Key Players: Malakai Tobler and Jack Layton for the Phoenix are very fun to watch, but Coach Wood and star player Daniel Sunkuli will be ready for them on their home court.
🗓️ Friday, December 19, 2025
Morgan vs. Provo (at Snow College)
Game Notes: This might be one of the best games of the week! Both teams have been at the top of their classification rankings and feature the favorites for Player of the Year in their respective classes: Bracken Saunders and Makai Allen.
Key Matchups: Can Morgan’s Mason Williams outplay Provo’s Callen Tollestrup? Will the glue guys, Jake Hansen and Lucas Castagnetto, shine? This is a must-watch game happening at Snow College!
Bountiful at West Field
Context: West Field isn’t a team many people were talking about until they beat Morgan to start the year.
Key Matchup: 2028 6’6 F Drew Faddis is playing at a very high level, but West Field will have a tough match-up against a balanced Bountiful attack led by 2026 snipers Lincoln Smith and Wyatt Crane.
Good luck to all the Utah boys traveling to play out of state this week!
Remember the basics:
Be kind to the officials.
Have fun.
Play hard.
